Food Technology

Be Involved

Food Technology allows pupils to explore their creativity using a range of ingredients and techniques that will help prepare them for the next stage of their education and for adult life. Pupils are taught the importance of healthy eating and the principles of nutrition. Making a range of predominantly savoury dishes, pupils are encouraged to explore flavours and textures whilst learning a variety of cooking techniques such as selecting and preparing ingredients, using utensils and electrical equipment and how to adapt their own recipes. Extra-curricular activities are offered when possible so that pupils have enjoyment and a fascination to learn about the food they eat, where it comes from and how this affects both their current and future health and lifestyle.

 

Make a Difference

In Food technology, pupils have the opportunity to design and make products that respond to a wide variety of problems within a range of contexts giving them the opportunity to evaluate the social issues around food such as price, income, fair trade, food miles and sustainability. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their food choices enabling them to develop a healthy eating culture and a positive impact on their own wellbeing and those around them.

Food Technology aims to develop strong individual life skills, confidence, independence, resilience and creativity through theory and practical cooking lessons. It promotes participation and teamwork encouraging pupils to work cooperatively. Students are supported and equipped with the skills and attributes they need to become confident, determined and respectful young adults who have exciting and ambitious aspirations for their futures.
